Metals are different from other materials Essay Metals are different from other materials because they have electrons that are not joined to any specific atom, meaning that the electrons have the ability to move between the various atoms of that metal. These electrons are always in random motion due to their heat energy. If a metal wire is subjected electric force at its opposite terminals, then these free electrons, which carry a negative charge, move towards the electric force and we end up with what is called an electric current. Another way of saying this is that when charge is moving we have current, like the motion of electrons in wire leading to bulb. Ions found in water also carry a charge and current is able to flow in water. Movement of charged electrons in a vacuum is also a form of current. An example is the computer monitor or the T. V. set. Charged particles move across space, i. e vacuum, when they are released by the picture tube and strike the screen and light released which is seen as a picture. In order for current to be able to flow it needs a push and this push is supplied by voltage. 1 Charge will always flow from a potential of higher energy to low energy. Current is a measure of the quantity of charge that passes a location every second. The unit which current is measured in is Amphere [A]. The current law states that at any junction in an electric circuit, a point where the current is split into two or more parts, the total electric current output will be equal to the amount put in initially. A conductor, the object which allows charge to move through it, always puts up a certain amount of electrical resistance against the charge that is flowing through it. This friction in turn heats up the object. This transferring of electrical energy and the rate at which heat is put out is measured in Watts. The resistance put up by the conductor is measured in Ohms. 2 Another way of saying it is that Ampheres is the stuff that flows inside the wires (the charge, electrons), and the amount of charge is measured in Coulombs and finally the work Amphere is the same as one Coulomb of charge passing in one second. The more quickly a charge flows the higher the ampheres. Also the greater the amount of charge flowing, like a bigger wire, the higher the ampheres. Another words it is possible to have the ampheres if there is fast flowing charge through a thin wire as with slow moving charge through a thick wire. 2 It is easy to see why all this is very confusing. Romero Essay -- essays research papers
In the movie Romero, Archbishop Romero changes very much in his understanding of love and in his understanding of true conscience. At first Romero is just a priest who isnââ¬â¢t really concerned about the poor and how they are being oppressed, but when Romero is chosen to be the new Archbishop his friend, who is assassinated, I think has a slight impact on him. But I think when his friend is assassinated is when he really starts to realize what is happening to the country of El Salvador and how the government doesnââ¬â¢t want anyone to speak out about this. So, now Romero is starting to action against the government and tries to speak out against them. Here we see Archbishop Romeroââ¬â¢s true conscience and love grow for the people around him because we see him taking more action against the government. I think that Archbishop Romero defines love as helping others who are in need and others who need his help whatever it may be. We see Romero do this when he starts to lead t he revolt in trying to tell the El Salvadoran Government to stop oppressing the poor and treat everyone as human beings. I think Romero has to make a very big decision considering, the gorillas were sending out flyers that said ââ¬Å"Be a Patriot, Kill a Priestâ⬠. The decision that Romero had to make was whether or not to help the poor or just be a puppet for the cardinals that selected him to be a puppet in the beginning. Schlafly’s Opinion on School to Work Programs
On September 4, 1997, Phyllis Schlafly wrote an article titled ââ¬Å"School-to-Work Will Train, Not Educate. â⬠The article discusses the cons of the school-to-work program and that states that it is portrayed as a ââ¬Å"cradle to the grave. â⬠The article says that the school-to-work program will train and not educate. Schlafly is the president of the Eagle Forum, a organization that stands for the fundamental right of parents to guide the education of their own children, thinks that ââ¬Å"school-to-work is a direct threat to the individual student, his or her privacy, his or her goals and his or her acquisition of an education that can help him reach them. Schlaflyâ⬠s opinion wrong and will not pass in todayâ⬠s society. In Schlaflyâ⬠s criticism, she states that the school-to-work program ââ¬Å"deemphasizes or eliminates academic work and substitutes mandated vocational training to better serve the workforce. â⬠She also says that ââ¬Å"instead of the focus being on developing the child, the focus is on developing a labor force. â⬠Schlafly thinks that school-to-work is training rather then education. In contrast to Schlafly, Olson says that school-to-work give students ââ¬Å"motivationâ⬠which will help students because students in todayâ⬠s society are not motivated enough. Surveys prove that students describe education as ââ¬Å"boring. â⬠Schlafly believes that the STW law stating that vocational training starts ââ¬Å"at the earliest possible ageâ⬠¦ â⬠is wrong. The reason is that she believes that elementary or middle school children do not know what career they want to fulfill. The last point in Schlaflyâ⬠s article is she states that ââ¬Å"big businesses support school-to-work because they think that vocational courses in high school for illiterate or semi-illiterate students will train young Americans to compete in the global economy with people in the third world willing to work for 25 and 50 cents an hour. She is basically saying that big businesses are supporting school-to-work because they want some cheap labor. In conclusion to her article, Schlafly says that ââ¬Å"all those who value freedom must defeat and defund school-to-work. â⬠She thinks that school-to-work is oppressing the students from their freedom to learn and receive a good education. Schlaflyâ⬠s article says that Marc Tuckerâ⬠s plan for school-to-work is to ââ¬Å"train children in specific jobs to serve the workforce and the global economy instead of educate them so they can make their own life choices. She also says that it is designed on the ââ¬Å"German system. â⬠Where did she get the idea that school-to-work is based on the ââ¬Å"German system? â⬠She does not know what she is talking about and the information she is spreading is invalid. She also states that the program is to ââ¬Å"trainâ⬠children but she also does not give the option of training and educating together. Olson shows how training and education goes together by showing kids why they have to learn and by creating a desire to learn. Schlafly is absolutely wrong about ââ¬Å"training children. â⬠Beginning school-to-work at the earliest age possible does not mean that elementary and middle school students are going to choose their lifetime career. Giving the children vocational training will give them an option in what they want to do in the future. Children will see if they like the field of training and study and decide whether or not they want to pursue that vocation in the future. In comparison to what Olson says, ââ¬Å"school-to-work activities can provide choices and opportunities for young people, many of whom are not now well served y our education system. Schlafly says that ââ¬Å"big businesses support school-to-workâ⬠because it will provide them with cheap labor. Where did Schlafly get this information? Throughout the whole article there is no proof of justifying this idea. She also mentions that governors support the program because ââ¬Å"it gives them control of a pot of money for which they donâ⬠t have to account to the state legislature. â⬠This statement also lacks evidence and cannot be used to prove that the program is a failure. School-to-work is not for businesses or governors, but rather for the children themselves and their goals for their future. Like Olson says, ââ¬Å"school-to-work can encourage young people to pursue education and training beyond high school. â⬠Is Schlafly criticism valid at all? Absolutely not, she bases her information on nothing, such as the ââ¬Å"German system. â⬠Schlafly proved that school-to-work is training for a lifetime career but this argument is wrong because training can also be compatible with education. Big businesses and governors may support school-to-work for cheap labor and for the money but there is no proof and even if there was any proof not all businesses and governors would think that way. Until Schlafly gives some proof to her information and can prove that training and education are not compatible, she is not to be taken seriously. School-to-work is a very good idea and to agreement with Olson, ââ¬Å"done right school-to-work can be a powerful tool in the effort to achieve higher academic standards and a more educated citizenry.

The Economy and Life During the 1920s - 635 Words
The 1920s was known for its prosperous and flamboyant lifestyle. The GDP during that time had risen by 30 percent and unemployment was as at an all-time low of 3 percent. This was not meant to last forever. In fact, it was nearly impossible for this to last any longer than it did due to an imbalance that society was unaware of including that not every citizen was experiencing this uncommon wealth. There were still 3 percent unemployed and even some of the employed members of society did not make enough to support a family and were considered homeless. It was in October of 1929 when this so-called luxurious lifestyle vanished as the stock market crashed at a time when the stock market seemed it would never stop increasing. This caused an economic, downhill, rolling ball effect. Those who took out loans to invest in stocks could not afford to repay the banks causing the banks to fail and close down. When the banks closed down, the depositors of that bank lost their life savings causing them to go broke and some company owners to close their doors. This led to a loss of jobs by the employers of those companies. This time period was known as the Great Depression and rightfully so. It is the most significant setback in the American Economy to date. The Herbert Hoover administration was in effect at this time giving the society an easy target to blame.
